3DModels
The skull
24 October , 2025
In this piece I was attempting to paint the light and shadow on the model without computed rendering, instead painting it directly into the texture itself.
This was quite a challenge, since the lighting needed to appear realistic enough that the viewer could discern the position of each light from the appearance alone. To this end, I painted the model using a ray-traced render viewer of the model simultaneously so that I could observe high quality lighting simulations to assist with my painting.

A Fantastic Apple
1 September , 2025
This piece was an experiment in painting 3D models in a looser, more expressive way than previously. It was also my first attempt at painting a background sphere so that the model wasn’t set against a plain background.
Painting both the object and background on equally sized canvasses was a challenge given the relative scale of each object, but I would like to try out painting backgrounds again in the future with a larger background canvas.

Shark
25 July , 2025
This shark was the second model which was produced with my painter app. In this piece, I was attempting to paint the model so that it would look correctly lit even when rendered without any lighting, for example painting the skin bluer towards the top since that would be the surface pointing toward the surface of the water.
This was a really interesting project, and the first of my 3D models which could be rigged and animated, which let me have some more fun when I was producing a video of the painting process!

Burger
30 April , 2025
This was the first 3D model piece that was created in my dedicated app, which made it a lot easier to paint without much back-and-forward between my computer and the canvas.
For this piece I chose to paint a burger because I wanted to try out painting a bunch of different surface types, and burgers are constructed from many pieces that have different properties. For example, the onion and tomato are shiny at the side whereas the buns are mostly matte.

Boat
16 April , 2025
This piece was my first attempt at texturing a 3D model using traditional oil painting to produce the diffuse map. At this point, I hadn’t created my painter app yet so this piece was created using a combination of Python scripts and blender.
Since this was my first piece using this method, I didn’t really know what I was doing going into it, but after a while of painting I started being able to anticipate how to paint the map properly so that the model looked how I wanted it to.
