Respite

This piece was produced for a student art competition at my university, which was based on the prompt ‘sanctuary’.

I intended the painting to depict that the act of painting was a personal sanctuary, with the painting showing my perspective as I paint while still clearly placing me in the center of the piece. As an extra nod to the theme, within the painting I am painting a picture of a literal sanctuary - a church.

The piece was not shortlisted in the competition.
