Clouds in the Lake District
I’m not very experienced with painting landscapes, and this study was an especially challenging one for me - it heavily features clouds, which I am not very good at painting, casting a shadow on the landscape.
To simplify the cloud painting I treated them as being made up of opaque, roughly cubic shapes. I liked how this looked, so I leaned into it when detailing. To try and add some shape to the landscape, I included clear brushstrokes which followed each of the hills down, which I felt was especially effective in the foreground.
Overall I was quite happy with how this piece came out, but it’s still very obvious to me that I need more practice with painting clouds and landscapes.
