Half Drunk Rum

The still life is a genre of painting that I don’t create very often any more, though I find them very interesting and satisfying to create.

In this piece, I was experimenting with how to make a still life vibrant without oversaturating the piece.

The first layer was painted very classically, making it have colours and patterns that were true to life. The second layer consisted of fewer brushstrokes of very saturated, vibrant colours which were used to add detail and saturation to the piece.
