Blue-banded Snappers

This piece is a rare painting from my early works, in which the subject of the painting covers the entire area of the canvas. The piece has essentially no empty space, consisting nearly entirely of a shoal of blue-banded snappers.

This painting was a very enjoyable one to make, since it gave me the opportunity to paint many slight variations of the same basic fish, and to experiment with how more distant subjects would appear behind the murkiness of the ocean water.
